"We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to write about the Old Vic, Bridgwater Somerset. Firstly, they should have a name change to the 3E's Hotel , standing for an Eclectic, Exceptional Enclave. Secondly, if you have to suffer a cruel and unusual punishment otherwise known as the M5 motorway we refuse to believe that there exists a more calming and accessible interlude to one's journey than this place.

Once through the door you enter an oasis of hospitality evident from the on-site owners to every single staff members commitment to the well-being of the guest and their dogs should they have one. If you get the chance book it, we know we shall again without hesitation."

"Absolutely amazing stay, Peter, Candy and all the staff made us very welcome right from the off and we were really surprised the amount of detail they go to in order to make your stay a special one. Being vegan you never know quite what to expect but the Old Vicarage had an excellent menu and the spare ribs were absolutely delicious. Our room and the hotel itself is spotlessly clean.

This place was the most dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed at. There was a bowl, blanket and treats in the room for our boy Tyzer who also got lots of attention from the staff. Tyzer also got on really well with the lovely hotel hound Ben. We really loved our time here, thank you all, we can’t wait to return."

Very good room and breakfast For a pub hotel this place is very relaxing - the staff were very friendly and although I didn’t eat there the menu looked lovely. Comfy bed and well equipped room, is round the corner from a few rowdier pubs so it’s worth taking earplugs if you’re a light sleeper - it’s not that you can hear the places themselves but some of the revellers can be a bit noisy as they pass the hotel on their stagger home! Breakfast was excellent and they catered for my gluten free requirement.

Great venue Stayed for a family birthday party which was held in the covered patio area. They also have large marquee for bigger events and an historic dining room for smaller bookings. Great food and attentive service. Bedrooms are all different, some with quirky features although being an old listed building some have small twisty stairs to negotiate. All rooms well appointed with quality toiletries. Would definitely recommend as an alternative to a soulless chain hotel.

Food you will want to return to Living in Bridgwater, it is often hard to find high quality food at a price that is good for a family. What is important to us, is food that tastes great at an affordable price, and this is exactly what we get here, whether it is a meal for 2 during the week or Sunday lunch for our full family of 5. After visiting the first time, we have often returned and will continue to do so. Not only do we get what we want, but the staff are all friendly and professional.

Quaint stay in Bridgwater I first chose to stay here due to its ideal location to be close to family and offering private parking also. However, over the course of the 3 nights I spent here, I was given many more reasons to be thankful I decided to stay at The Old Vicarage. Before I even set off on my journey Rob contacted me ahead of time, calling the night before I was due to stay with them to see if I wished to book a table in the restaurant for the evening of my first night there. Kim was quick to check me in and show me to my room even during dinner service. My room was comfortable and housekeeping did a great job keeping it clean during my stay. The whole team was like one big family and all done a great job welcoming me, making me feel at home. The two owners, Peter and Candy were personable and nothing was too much trouble for them or any of their staff. The food in the hotel was very good and the whole place just oozed character that made me fall in love with the place on the first night. Comfortable seating in the hotel bar area and a private resident lounge that was delightfully cozy. I cannot thank the owners and staff of The Old Vicarage enough for making my stay so pleasant and making me feel at home. I left feeling I had made new friends in Bridgwater and look forward to a return stay next time I am in that part of the country.

Fantastic midweek break and dog friendly means just that ! Just spent a couple of days at this lovely hotel. It has plenty of character with superb comfortable accommodation. The food is excellent with a good choice and the staff just so helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. It just had a lovely ambiance. We have an 11 month large puppy and he was looked after as well as us. The best dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed in. So can highly recommend

Cycle stopover We were on a cycle expedition following national cycle network route three. Very accommodating with cycle storage: we had seven bikes some of which went in the cycle shed and some of which went in the wedding marquee. Family room was huge with separate double and twin areas, and nice and warm. Some water in the room would be nice and we couldn’t find any remote controls that worked. Ate our meal in the restaurant. Food was very good and very helpful with our gluten-free guest. Building is listed and the restaurant area is eclectic and quaint. Breakfast was very good. Good value for money on DBB tariff. Bridgewater itself isn’t particularly inspiring.

Lovely relaxing break We have just come back from a really relaxing 2 day break. We stayed in room 8 which is very spacious even with a king size bed, which was extremely comfortable and a large en-suite with large walk-in shower. The room overlooks the church and the road it was a little noisy Sunday night but not for long. The car park is small but we were lucky and managed to park there. The breakfast was good not rushed just what you need on a break, we ate in the restaurant both nights and the food did not disappoint. The bar has a good selection of beers and spirits and a comfortable seating area. The owners and staff were really friendly and made you feel very welcome. We would definitely go back to this lovely historic hotel brilliant stay thank you.
